The salt spray on Leo’s lips tasted like a promise kept. For three days, he had chased nothing but the wind and his own thoughts, steering his small sailboat farther into the vast blue than he had ever dared alone. Now, as the afternoon slipped through his fingers, the world softened into something ancient and breathing.

Ahead of him, the ocean stretched out like a sheet of hammered glass, disturbed only by the rhythmic, gentle waves that nudged the hull with a soothing, liquid sigh. The water was a mirror of liquid amber, catching the dying light and flinging it back toward the heavens.

Slowly, the sky caught fire. Swirls of vibrant orange bled into bruised, tender pinks, melting together at the peaceful horizon where the earth seemed to hold its breath. Leo killed the engine, letting the canvas slacken. The sudden silence was absolute, save for the creak of the mast and the whispered wash of the tide. Far in the distance, a solitary sailboat drifted like a ghost against the brilliant gradient of the sunset, its silhouette sharp and timeless.

He leaned back against the cockpit cushions, letting the warmth of the fading light soak into his skin. The chaotic rush of the life he had left behind on the coast felt a million miles away, dissolved into the warm reflections dancing across the deep. Here, between the endless water and the painted sky, time had no teeth. Leo closed his eyes and simply existed in the quiet heartbeat of the sea.
