29 segments · synchedThe wind up here always carried the scent of rain and crushed peat, a wild perfume that clung to the wool of Clara’s cloak. Below her boots, the ancient, winding trail vanished into a vast sea of purple heather, a rolling tide of blooms that stretched as far as the eye could see across the highland meadow.
For hours, she had climbed the remote wilderness, leaving the lowlands and their worries far behind. Now, halfway up the valley, the world opened its lungs. Towering mountain peaks, dark and dramatic, shouldered their way into a turbulent sky, their jagged ridges half-swallowed by heavy, bruised clouds. Yet, as Clara paused to catch her breath, a sudden break in the grey canopy let through a shaft of soft sunlight. It illuminated the damp rocks and detailed blades of grass at her feet, turning every dewdrop into a trembling spark of gold.
She smiled, adjusting the straps of her pack, and stepped forward again. The mountains offered no answers, only silence, and as she walked deeper into the vibrant purple expanse, that silence was all she needed.
