The breath of winter arrived before the snow could settle, catching the last amber embers of an autumn twilight. Across the vast, frozen tundra plain, the world had quieted into shades of lavender and bruised blue. The pale sky hung low, pregnant with the weight of the coming storm, as a soft flurry of crystal dust began to swirl through the freezing air.

Through this hushed, monochromatic landscape moved a ghost.

With pristine white fur that seemed to gather the dying light of day, an arctic fox trotted purposefully over the crust of ice. Every step was deliberate and light, its thick, luxurious coat rippling slightly against the biting wind. It was completely at home in the wild, an apex wanderer of the deep cold, hunting by sound and instinct beneath the frozen crust.

Suddenly, the fox stopped. Its twitching black nose tested the bitter air, and its dark, intelligent eyes locked onto a tiny disturbance beneath the powder snow. With a sudden burst of effortless grace, it pounced, diving headfirst into the drift. It emerged a moment later, shaking a spray of glittering snow from its face, its sharp hunt fulfilled as it trotted onward, melting seamlessly back into the quiet majesty of the arctic dusk.
