Neon Alleyway At Night

The rain in the lower sectors didn't wash things clean; it just made them slick and reflective, turning the grime into a mirror for the city's synthetic heartbeat. Kael pulled the collar of his weather-sealed coat tighter against his neck as he ducked into a narrow alleyway, leaving the deafening hover-traffic of the main avenue behind.

Here, deep in the urban underbelly, the night belonged to the hum of power conduits and the electric bleed of neon. Overhead, tangled webs of cables dripped water onto the rusted fire escapes, while towering monoliths blocked out the stars, replacing them with a perpetual amber-and-cyan glow. Kael navigated the maze of shadows carefully, his boots splashing through scattered rain puddles that rippled with distorted crimson and violet light. Every surface carried a detailed, slick wetness, catching the aggressive glare of overhead signs written in languages he couldn’t read.

Midway down the passage, a sudden hiss broke the steady patter of the drizzle. A heavy street vent exhaled a plume of faint steam, warm and smelling faintly of ozone and synthetic copper, swirling upward into the cool night air. Kael paused beside it, holding out his hand to catch a brief moment of heat before pressing forward.

At the far end of the alley, half-hidden behind a stack of discarded data-crates, a flickering holographic marker pulsed with the coordinates he was waiting for. He tapped the receiver in his ear, confirming the drop, and stepped out into the deeper dark beyond, swallowed entirely by the cyberpunk sprawl.
