The engine purred like a caged beast, a low, mechanical growl that vibrated straight through the thick, weathered leather of my jacket. I shifted down a gear, leaning into the curve of the asphalt as the coastal road unspooled ahead like a black ribbon pinned to the edge of the world.

Below, the ocean churned in a rhythmic fury, sending up ghostly plumes of white spray that caught the wind and drifted across the tarmac, kissing my visor with cool, salty mist. There was no destination tonight, no clock ticking down an obligation, just the hypnotic hum of the vehicle beneath me and the endless horizon bleeding into the gathering shadows.

The sky overhead was a shifting canvas of dusky pink and bruised violet, the last dying embers of the sun melting into the western sea. Every breath tasted of ozone and freedom, sweeping away the dust of the mundane week. I twisted the throttle, feeling the machine surge forward with effortless grace, chasing the twilight down the winding cliffside until the road vanished into the dark and the stars began to burn.
