The engine roared like a caged beast, vibrating straight through the heavy rubber grips and up into Jax’s forearms. Ahead lay the lip of the ridge—a jagged ramp of packed earth that dropped off into absolute nothingness. He didn't ease off the throttle. In this game, hesitation was the enemy of gravity.

With a final, violent twist of his wrist, he launched.

Time seemed to stutter as the heavy dirt bike broke free from the earth. Instantly, the deafening scream of the engine muffled into a rushing roar of wind. Chunks of dark, wet mud—flung from the aggressive tread of the spinning rear tire—peppered the back of his helmet, smelling of rich soil and raw power. Below him, the track vanished, replaced by a dizzying drop-off.

Jax adjusted his weight mid-air, shifting his body with fluid precision. The intricate mechanics of the bike’s suspension hung fully extended beneath him, heavy steel and coiled springs absorbing the phantom recoil of the takeoff. Above, a dramatic, bruised sky of bruised violet and burning gold hung like a theater backdrop, indifferent to the airborne machine slicing through its air currents.

For two glorious, weightless seconds, there was no sound, no pain in his bruised ribs, and no pressure from the championship points standing on the line. There was only suspension, momentum, and the sky.

Then, the laws of physics came rushing back. The front wheel kissed the downward slope of the landing ramp with ruthless perfection. The shocks compressed with a heavy hiss, soaking up the impact as the rubber bit back into the dirt, sending a fresh spray of mud flying into the twilight. Jax slammed the throttle open, surging forward into the next turn, leaving the roar of the jump echoing behind him.
