The silence of the arctic night was absolute, heavy enough to feel in the chest. Kaelen drifted in his small wooden kayak, his paddle resting across his knees as he let the current carry him deeper into the glacial fjord. Towering icy cliffs rose on either side of him like the jagged, sleeping ribs of ancient giants, glowing with a soft, ethereal luminescence under the light of a pale winter moon.

Below him, the dark arctic waters were impossibly still. They acted as a flawless mirror, doubling the colossal height of the frost-bound peaks and capturing every intricate, razor-sharp detail of the ice texture above. For a long time, the only sound was the rhythmic thud of his own heartbeat and the occasional, distant crack of a shifting glacier miles away—a sound like thunder trapped beneath glass.

Then, the sky above the ridge began to wake. A faint, ghostly green shimmer unfurled across the stars, slow and breath-like. The aurora bled downward, painting the edge of the glacial cliffs in pale emerald and casting long, dancing reflections across the mirror-like surface of the sea. Kaelen held his breath, drifting between two worlds of ice and light, completely lost in the majestic quiet of the northern wild.
