The tide had retreated just an hour before, leaving behind a jagged labyrinth of wet, gleaming rock that smelled fiercely of salt and sun-warmed kelp. Maya knelt at the edge of a shallow basin, her fingers hovering just above the water's glassy surface. Far out, faint waves crashed rhythmically against distant, spray-haloed rocks, a low and steady heartbeat that echoed across the shore.

The coast was alive in the bright daylight. Every crevice and shadow held a secret. Maya leaned closer, her eyes adjusting to the brilliant glare reflecting off the damp stone. Below the surface, the tide pool was a miniature, alien metropolis. Dotted across the submerged ledges were clusters of vibrant sea anemones, their translucent tentacles swaying in a gentle, hypnotic dance. Some bloomed in brilliant shades of emerald green, while others flared like underwater sunflowers in neon purples and fiery pinks.

A tiny hermit crab scuttled across a carpet of purple coralline algae, pausing momentarily before retreating into its spiral shell as Maya shifted her weight. She smiled, feeling a deep, curious sense of wonder that always gripped her whenever the ocean revealed these hidden worlds. For a few quiet moments, the rest of the vast, roaring coast faded away, leaving only the miniature universe spinning beneath her fingertips.
