The world was born anew every morning, but only those who watched closely ever saw the seams.

Before the sun cleared the jagged line of the eastern pines, the meadow belonged entirely to the mist. It hovered low and thick, a pale, breathing ocean of damp earth and crushed clover. In the quiet heart of this white silence, the tall grass shivered. Dewdrops clung to the blades like scattered pearls, heavy and trembling, waiting for the first spark of day.

A single hoof pressed silently into the moss at the forest edge, disturbing the stillness.

Out from the deep shadows of the ancient trees stepped the matriarch, her ears flicking as she tested the cool, sweet air. Behind her, the veil of fog parted, revealing the rest of the herd. One by one, they materialized like ghosts stepping through a curtain—does with wide, dark eyes, a cautious young buck with velvet-soft antlers, and a spotted fawn staying close to its mother’s flank. Every detail of their intricate, amber-brown fur caught the faint, pearlescent glow of the coming dawn. They moved with a fluid, haunting grace, bound by an ancient rhythm known only to the wild.

Then, the sun broke.

A single beam of molten gold stabbed through the canopy, slicing across the misty meadow. Instantly, the landscape ignited. The fog turned from gray to a brilliant, glowing amber, swirling around the slender legs of the deer as they waded through the sea of grass. Dust motes and vapor danced in the sudden shafts of warmth, turning the ordinary morning into a cathedral of light.

Pausing near the center of the clearing, the buck raised his head, nostrils flaring to drink in the golden morning, completely undisturbed by the waking world. For a fleeting moment, time seemed to hold its breath. Then, with a soft rustle of tall grass, the herd drifted onward, dissolving back into the shimmering embrace of the forest edge, leaving the meadow quiet once more beneath the rising sun.
